Earlier this week, just in time for Memorial Day, I celebrated picnics, ending with one of the all-time greatest picnic feasts, a Maine shorefront clam bake. But there are many other kinds of picnics, complex and simple, sometimes just involving a solitary hiker strolling and stopping to enjoy a peanut butter sandwich and an apple by the roadside. Sometimes, occasionally, we have what amounts to a picnic on the kitchen porch, just sitting out to enjoy the summer evening with a few select cheeses, some good local bread, and a chilled bottle of rosé.
